Tenants to move into University Town Center

"...residents at One Independence Plaza should start moving in toward the end of August. About 80 percent of the 122 units have been sold"

"A model for Plaza Lofts 22, which Taylor described as a more upscale development, should be open the first week of September with construction being complete by the end of the year."

"A grand opening is scheduled for November but retail, which currently is mainly restaurants, will begin to open at the end of August."

New photos of Plaza Lofts

I stopped by UTC yesterday and took some photos of Plaza Lofts Twenty-Two. You can see them on the photos page: http://www.utcliving.com/photos.cfm. You can get a much better view now that America Blvd is open. It seems like they're on schedule with the zinc installation - should be a very impressive looking building.

Plaza Lofts update from the Post

There is an interesting article in today's Washington Post about Plaza Lofts, specifically about the unique zinc walls:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/08/AR2007040800904.html

Definitely required reading for future residents who want to be able to explain it to their guests. I think it's going to look fantastic, and I'm pleased that the developers are making this type of investment to ensure the building looks just as fantastic for many years to come. According to the article, a zinc wall can last for 100 years and can "heal itself when scratched, like human skin."

Other interesting tidbits for future UTC residents:

About 80 percent of the Plaza Lofts units are already sold, which means only about 5 units remain.

The installation of the zinc walls will take a crew of eight about two months, and they plan to begin "in coming weeks". I'll try to get some photos of the installation. In the meantime, check out the wall-less photos from last weekend on the photos page at http://www.utcliving.com/photos.cfm.

Hip Lofts to Bring Glimmer of Zinc to Hyattsville

Plaza Lofts Twenty-Two "is one of the first residential buildings in the Washington region to install walls made of zinc, a metal that industry experts say is emerging nationwide as a desirable alternative to traditional materials such as copper or less expensive masonry."
